Harewood Neighbourhood Gets a New Quality Foods

Nanaimo’s Harewood neighbourhood has experienced considerable growth over the last few years with new subdivisions bringing additional housing and many more residents to the area.

J.E.Anderson & Associates has worked on a number of those subdivisions, helping to create as many as 200 new residential lots to meet the increasing demand for homes in Nanaimo.

Recently, a brand-new Quality Foods supermarket opened in Harewood on Bruce Avenue near Eighth Street to serve the area. J.E. Anderson & Associates’ Civil Engineering and Surveying teams in Nanaimo started working on this project for Kelland Holdings Ltd. in 2015. We performed all the legal surveying, designed all the site and building servicing, and managed all the site grading for this tremendous new store, which has been named Quality Foods’ new flagship store.

“This was a really exciting project to be a part of. After working on so many subdivisions in the area, I could really see the need for this new store and was happy to see it open its doors in September,” said Scott Stevenson, Civil Engineer and Partner at J.E. Anderson. “A lot of people and companies were involved with this project, from creating the designs to construction, and it came together very well.”

The upscale Quality Foods store opened in September to rave reviews from area residents. At 50,000 square feet spread out on two levels, this new store is three times the size of the previous Quality Foods in Harewood. It contains all the regular grocery items one would expect, plus a large deli, bakery, floral shop, sushi bar, two cafeterias with indoor and outdoor seating, a gift shop, two conference rooms, and a pub. Additionally, the meat department is set up to smoke meat on site.
