Roundup of Campbell River Area Projects
June 9, 2020Ryan Hourston, Land Surveyor and Partner at J.E. Anderson & Associates, is excited about a new trend he’s seeing in Victoria. J.E. Anderson has been doing surveying work for Aryze Developments, an innovative construction and development company that selects old buildings that have reached the end of their lifespan in good neighbourhoods and replaces them with sustainable, community-based, often multi-family homes. These projects have ranged from single-family homes to condos and rental apartments.
“As an infill developer, Aryze consults with the community and neighbourhood associations because the goal is to help revive the area through sustainable, community-based development,” Hourston says. “Through the consultation process, the company makes several amendments and the architects are nimble and responsive to both the community and developers. It’s a rewarding process to be a part of.”
J.E. Anderson has performed topographic site plans, which often include the neighbouring buildings, for a number of Aryze projects. The architects use this data to show how the buildings fit into the existing neighbourhood. As the city has approved some of the proposed developments, Hourston and his team have started working on the construction layouts as well. Some of the eco-friendly features in many of the developments include car share access and bike storage, plus there are usually open courtyards for the residents to use as a common area and visit with one another.
Some of the projects J.E. Anderson has worked on with Aryze include Rotunda, a family-oriented, row-style, 11-unit complex in James Bay, and Rhodo townhouse complex in the Gonzales neighbourhood, which features three small clusters of 2 – 4 bedroom homes. This additional density is expected to draw more families to these areas. “These homes are designed in such a way that they contribute to a sense of community within the neighbourhood,” Hourston says.
Rotunda by Aryze. A sophisticated solution that draws inspiration from historical building architecture in the immediate area. These 11 units, provide family orientated housing to a walkable amenity-rich neighbourhood.
Aryze Developments is planning a new community of homes with Shape Architecture, a leading Vancouver based architect and winner of the 2018 AIBC Lieutenant-Governor’s Medal.
