August 20, 2018J.E. Anderson & Associates’ Victoria team has been working with Aragon Properties on a project in Esquimalt involving a cherished heritage site, the English Inn. The project will redevelop the 4.3-acre property on which the historic English Inn is located.
The Inn, originally built as an enormous house in 1906, is recognized by its Tudor revival style. While maintaining the integrity of the Inn and gardens, Aragon has plans to develop a high-quality master-planned community on the site.
The resulting development on Lampson Street will include seven townhomes and 180 condos, ranging from one-bedroom to three-bedroom units – all constructed in a style that merges Victorian architectural style with more modern design. Renovations will also take place on the English Inn to increase the number of rooms, add a restaurant, lounge, small spa and a gym, while preserving its charm and character.
Land Surveyors from J.E. Anderson have been working with Aragon’s team to map out the Inn’s basement to allow the construction team to renovate and update the original structure. One of the challenges with the Inn upgrade was that there were no accurate building plans to show what was there originally. Once the irregular shaped basement was surveyed the construction team had an accurate reference plan to assist the new construction.
J.E. Anderson will also provide surveying services for the new wing of the Inn, townhomes and condos as that portion of the project proceeds. The city issued Aragon with a development permit for the condo buildings in November 2017.
“This is an interesting project to work on because it includes both upgrading and enhancing a recognized heritage building, along with the development of brand new multi-family homes,” says Ryan Hourston, BC Land Surveyor and Partner at J.E. Anderson & Associates.
