July 26, 2013Following the completion of Land Claims surveys for the Squamish First Nations and Kyuquot First Nations, J.E. Anderson has completed a large survey for the Yale First Nation.
Ken Kyler, BCLS, Manager of J.E. Anderson’s Parksville Branch, with field crew Holland Vieaux and Dan Meutzner have been in rugged terrain before, but this contract with the Ministry of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliations presented some interesting challenges. Daily access to the site across from Yale was by boat across the swirling Fraser River, followed by rugged hikes up heavily forested sidehills and rocky bluffs. Once on site, surveys included locating the natural boundary of the Fraser River, re-establishment of 2.5 km of CNR Right of Way boundaries, re-survey of two existing Reserves, and marking boundaries for new parcels of lands to be transferred to the Yale First Nation. Crews had to work closely with the CNR Safety Division to ensure appropriate safety and train traffic control measures were in place when working along the twisting railway tracks and tunnels.
